I am directed by Viscount Kilner to inform you that, subject to your being passed by the Ledical Adviser to this Lepartment as being physically fit for service, he proposes to select you for appointment as a fursing Dister in the Hong Kong Medical Department with salary at the rete of 110 a year rising after three years' service to 160 per annum. For purpose. of payments in the colony ualories fixed in sterling are converted into dollars as to 80, at the rate of 1/9d and as to 20% at a rate fixed by the Government and based on the average oịchange value of the dollar during the month eming on the luth day of the month for which salary is to be paid.

2. It is so be understood that your engagement is for not more than four years from the date of your arrival in the colony: and that, if it is established to the datisfaction of the Governor that you are hot qualified for efficient service there, he will, subject to the confirmation of the secretary of State, have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said four years without giving; you any further compensation than a passage back to England,
